# Duplicate post checker

Paste two X posts to see how similar they are. Shared phrases light up, a gauge scores the overlap out of 100, and tips show how to make each post stand on its own.

## What X's rules say about duplicate content and multiple accounts

Three published policies cover this. In plain words, as of September 2026:

### Automation rules

“duplicative or substantially similar”

No duplicate or near duplicate posts on one account or across accounts you operate. Accounts with different purposes are fine.

[Read the policy](https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/x-automation)

### Copypasta and duplicate content policy

“copypasta”

X limits the visibility of identical or near identical posts. Reposts, and quotes with your own commentary, are not limited.

[Read the policy](https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/copypasta-duplicate-content)

### Authenticity

Running several accounts that post the same content, or inflating how prominent a post looks, counts as manipulation.

[Read the policy](https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/authenticity)

In practice: several accounts can cover the same launch, but each needs its own words and its own reason to exist. This checker cannot predict what X will do; it shows where your drafts overlap.

## How the similarity score is computed

1. 1: ### Split into words: Lower case, punctuation dropped.
2. 2: ### Make shingles: Every run of three words is one phrase.
3. 3: ### Find shared phrases: Phrases that appear in both drafts.
4. 4: ### Divide: Shared ÷ all distinct phrases × 100.

Draft A

“Our new pricing page is live today”

- our new pricing
- new pricing page
- pricing page is
- page is live
- is live today

Draft B

“Our new pricing page went live this morning”

- our new pricing
- new pricing page
- pricing page went
- page went live
- went live this
- live this morning

2 shared 9 distinct

× 100 =

22

Only "our new pricing page" is shared, so the drafts land in the related band: the same news in their own words.

How to read the score (our rule of thumb, not an X threshold)

- Distinct 0 to 19: These read as different posts.
- Related 20 to 39: Same topic, own wording. Usually fine.
- Too close 40 to 59: Large parts are the same. Rewrite before posting both.
- Near duplicate 60+: Essentially the same post. Do not post both.

## How to use the duplicate post checker

1. 1: ### Paste the first draft: Replace draft A with your first post, and rename its label if you like.
2. 2: ### Paste the second draft: Replace draft B with the post for another account or a later date.
3. 3: ### Read the verdict: Check the score out of 100, its band and the shared phrases.
4. 4: ### Rewrite and check again: Rewrite the shared phrases until the score reaches Distinct or Related.

Planning a campaign across several accounts? Add a third draft and the checker scores every pair.

## Give each account its own angle

Rewording is the weakest fix. Start from one brief with the facts, then give each account a reason to speak. The words come out different on their own.

Shared brief, identical everywhere

Relay 2.0 · live today · cold starts 60% faster · relay.dev/2

- Main brandThe announcement: “Relay 2.0 is live.”
- Developer accountHow it works: “Under the hood, 2.0 swaps cold boots for snapshots.”
- FounderWhy we built it: “We spent a year on one number: start time.”
- SupportWhat to do next: “Upgrading takes one command. Here it is.”
- CommunityA question: “What will you build now that cold starts are gone?”
- Regional accountThe local detail: “2.0 now runs in our Frankfurt region too.”

No angle of its own? Let that account repost or quote the main post with a comment instead of writing a near copy.

## Duplicate content examples, scored

Each pair scored by the checker with three word phrases. Shared words are marked.

Adding "today" and swapping a few words leaves most phrases intact.

For the engineers: 2.0 swaps cold boots for runtime snapshots. Our p95 start time fell by 60% in testing. Nothing to migrate. Details at relay.dev/2

The developer account speaks to engineers. Facts, number and link stay the same.

### Same template, different event

@citybikes_london

Docks on the South Bank are closed this weekend for resurfacing. Use the stations on Waterloo Road instead. Back on Monday.

@citybikes_leeds

Docks at the station are closed this weekend for repairs. Use the stations on Boar Lane instead. Back on Tuesday.

Related, not duplicate. A whole feed of these would still read as a template.

Kairo Post runs this check in [campaigns](https://kairopost.com/features/campaigns): each account drafts its own angle from one brief, and drafts that come out too close are held for a rewrite. More checks live on the [tools page](https://kairopost.com/tools).

## Duplicate content questions

### Does X allow posting the same content on multiple accounts?

No. X's automation rules forbid duplicative or substantially similar content across accounts you operate, and its copypasta policy limits the visibility of near identical posts. Accounts with related but different purposes are allowed if each posts its own content.

### What similarity score is safe?

X publishes no number, so no score is officially safe. Our bands are a rule of thumb: under 20 reads as a different post, 20 to 39 is related, 40 or more means large parts are the same.

### Can I post the same thing again later on the same account?

X's rules also cover repetitive posting on one account. To bring an older post back, use Repost or quote it with new commentary, which X's copypasta policy names as acceptable.

### How is the similarity score calculated?

Each draft is split into overlapping three word phrases, called shingles. The score is the phrases both drafts share, divided by all distinct phrases across both, times 100. This is the Jaccard index.

### Why does changing one word lower the score so much?

Each word belongs to up to three phrases, so replacing one word breaks up to three shared phrases at once. Edits in the middle of a sentence move the score most.

### Does the checker catch paraphrases?

Only partly. It compares words, not meaning, so two drafts saying the same thing in different words score low. Read your drafts side by side too.

### Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The comparison runs in your browser with no sign up and no cost. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.
