Most onboarding emails get deleted unread. We rewrote ours last quarter and more people finished setup, so here is exactly what we changed and why. The old sequence was seven emails in ten days. Every one of them tried to teach a feature. 1/4
Opener - Your Name@yourhandle276
Nobody asked for a tour, they asked for a result, so we cut the sequence to three emails and gave each one a single job. Email one arrives right after signup. It has one link: the fastest path to a first working project. No logo banner, no feature grid, no founder photo. 2/4
Post 2 of 4 - Your Name@yourhandle266
Email two only goes to people who stalled. It names the exact step they stopped at and offers a two minute video for that step alone. Email three asks one question: what almost stopped you from signing up? The replies became our roadmap for the next two months. 3/4
Post 3 of 4 - Your Name@yourhandle118
What we learned: Fewer emails beat better emails. One job per message. Ask a question people can answer in a line. 4/4

How to make an X thread from long text
- Step 1
Paste your long text
Paste an article or notes, with a blank line between paragraphs.
- Step 2
Choose how to number
Pick 1/5, 1. or None.
- Step 3
Choose where to break
Sentences packs posts full; Paragraphs keeps paragraphs whole.
- Step 4
Set the maximum per post
Keep 280, or lower it to leave room for edits later.
- Step 5
Review and copy
Read each post in the preview, then copy them one by one or the whole thread at once.
Anatomy of a good X thread
X only links the posts together. Good threads almost always add the same three parts.
Opener
Earn the second post.
It is often the only post people see, so it must work alone. Lead with the result or the claim.
- Makes sense alone
- Says what the reader gets
- No "A thread about"
Body
One point per post.
Each middle post carries one idea that could be quoted on its own. Problem, attempt, what worked.
- Stands alone when reposted
- Breaks end a thought
- Links sit with their point
Closer
Land it, then stop.
End with the takeaway, the next step or the link.
- One thing to remember
- A next step
- No filler sign off
Before and after: one paragraph, one thread
A team update, too long for one post. The right side is the splitter's real output.
Before: one block
too longWe moved our docs from a wiki to plain Markdown files in the main repository, and it changed how often they get updated. The wiki had two problems. It lived away from the code, so nobody saw it during review, and it had no history anyone trusted. Now a pull request that changes an API has to change the docs next to it, and reviewers see both at once. We added one check: the build fails if a public function has no doc comment. It annoyed people for a week. After that, writing the comment became part of writing the function. Our docs are not perfect, but they are never more than one release behind, which was not true before. If you are stuck with a stale wiki, start with the ten pages people open most and move only those.

The splitter handles length, not writing. If your first sentence is a warm up, move the result to the front before you split.
Where the thread splitter breaks posts
Seven rules, applied in this order, decide every break.
- 01
Links are never cut
A link stays whole in one post and counts as 23, as on X.
- 02
Sentences end posts
Abbreviations like e.g. and decimals like 3.5 are not mistaken for sentence ends.
- 03
Paragraphs get a fresh post
Once a post is two thirds full, a new paragraph starts a new post.
- 04
Long sentences break at clauses
After a comma, semicolon or colon first; between words only as a last resort.
- 05
Numbering is reserved first
Room for 3/12 is set aside, so numbers never push a post over.
- 06
Lists survive
Single line breaks stay inside a post. A blank line starts a paragraph.
- 07
Counts match X
1 for most letters, 2 for emoji and CJK, 23 for every link.
Thread numbering styles compared
Numbers are a courtesy to readers, not a requirement. The splitter reserves their room in every post.
- 1/5costs 4 to 6 per post
Long threads and tutorials
Adding a post later throws the count off.
- 1.costs 3 to 4 per post
Lists and step by step guides
Can feel stiff for a story.
- Nonecosts 0 per post
Short threads and stories
Readers cannot see the length up front.
How X shows a thread in the timeline
Per X's help page on threads, short threads show connected, and longer ones collapse. Most readers see your opener and maybe one more post, so spend your effort there.
- Write the whole thread in X's composer with the plus button, then Post all.
- You can add posts to a thread after it is published.
- On your profile, thread posts appear separately, newest first.
Premium subscribers can post up to 25,000 characters in one post (X Premium ), but a thread works for every account.
When threads are part of the job
Kairo Post splits threads with the same rules, then schedules and publishes them. If X fails to confirm a post, the thread resumes from that post instead of duplicating the start. See the publishing feature, or use the X character counter to check a single post.
